Baked Asparagus

baked asparagus

Simply the best-tasting baked asparagus you'll find.

Important Note:The trick to this recipe is to slightly burn the butter (never use margarine) before adding the vinegar and soy.

Here's an idea: cook a filet of salmon, make extra sauce and pour on both. Delicious!

Try this sauce on steamed green beans...works well too.

This is easy, tasty and good for you! It is soo delicious that there won't be any left. Really worth a try. You won't be disappointed.

  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus, trimmed
  • cooking spray
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

What to do

Preheat oven to 400F.

Arrange the asparagus on a baking sheet. Coat with cooking spray, and season with salt and pepper.

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until slightly brown. Remove from heat, and stir in soy sauce and balsamic vinegar. Pour over the baked asparagus.

BBQ Asparagus

For this recipe, you will need to choose spears that have a fatter middle because you will be piercing them with a stick.

I use these small wooden sticks that you can buy in a bag, they are pointy at one end. Soak in water for about 5 minutes.

After you have washed and prepared your asparagus as explained above, create a kind of 'raft' with about six stalks on each, as shown in the picture.

Mix together some sesame oil (or olive oil) and a bit of soya sauce, more oil than soya, brush this on the asparagus on front and back.

Just set the rafts on your BBQ and cook for a few minutes. Watch constantly. Don't overcook. Make sure they don't burn, but a little bit of char on them is good.
