What's your favorite comfort food?

As I'm writing this page, I was wondering what 'comfort food' means to others.

So here is what it says on Wikipedia: "it is typically inexpensive, uncomplicated, and easy to prepare. Many people eat comfort food because it is generally easily digestible, is tasty and flavorful, or as a way to reward oneself".

My slowcooker beef stew

Here in my house, it's mostly in winter that we tend to cook food that will make us feel good and warm...like beef stew or chili. In summer, we use the BBQ a lot.

Did you know that the term "comfort food" was added to the Webster's Dictionary in 1972?

But I will confess that my favorite all year-round comfort food is the simplest recipe: macaroni 'au gratin'. Cook some macaroni, drain and dump into a glass loaf pan, add a can of chunky tomatoes, mix and sprinkle with grated cheese (lots of it), cook in the oven for 30 minutes, until cheese is bubbly. Enjoy!

So without further ado, here is a list of some of the most popular comfort food recipes in America:

  • Apple Pie
  • Baked Beans
  • Beef Stew
  • Chicken Pot Pie
  • Chicken Soup
  • Chili
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Macaroni & Cheese
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Meatloaf
  • Potato Salad
  • Pumpkin Pie
  • Shepherd's Pie
  • Spaghetti
  • Tomato Soup
  • Tuna Casserole
